In the case for a gas tankless system, it is more complex needing more ventilation from the combustion requirements needed to ignite, heat and exhaust fumes. The installation for most gas systems is very expensive in comparison with electric systems. While gas tankless water heaters are more efficient than their electric cousins, with burning gas which is cheaper than electricity; the electric units have longer service lives and cheaper installation.
